Connect your AI (MCP)
Let Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Claude Code work inside your Dexbi workspace.
You can connect an AI app you already use to your Dexbi workspace. Then you can ask it to do the work for you. Tell Claude "write our refund policy" and it becomes a document in Dexbi. Ask it to check how Dexbi answers, and it runs the questions through the Test box and fixes weak documents.
This works through MCP, a standard way for AI apps to use other tools. Any AI app that supports MCP connectors can connect. Connecting is included from Basic up.
What it can and can't do
When you connect, you choose what the app may do. There are four permissions:
| Permission | What the app can do |
|---|---|
| Read your knowledge | List, search and read documents and guidance. |
| Edit documents | Create, edit, move and delete documents. |
| Edit guidance | Create, edit and turn guidance rules on or off. |
| Ask test questions | Ask the Test box and see the answer and why. |
It can't touch deployments, reply settings, billing, teammates, access, audiences or the bot profile. Setting up channels and deploying stays in the dashboard. It also can't create or delete folders, add documents to a synced website's folder, or change a document's audience or channels.
Deleting a document through an AI app is permanent.
Before you start
- Your workspace is on Basic, Pro or Max.
- Your role allows what you want to grant. Viewers can grant Read your knowledge only. Editors and above can grant all four. (Viewers can still use the Test box themselves in the dashboard.)
- You have the server URL. It's in Settings > MCP:
https://api.dexbi.app/mcpConnect your app
- In Claude, open Settings > Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it Dexbi and paste the server URL.
- Choose Connect. Sign in to Dexbi, then pick the workspace and what Claude may do.
The connect screen
When your app sends you to Dexbi, you'll see Connect [app] to Dexbi in two steps:
- Choose a workspace and what it can do. Pick one workspace. Workspaces on Free show "MCP is included from Basic up" and can't be picked. Then check the permissions you want to give. A permission your role can't grant is greyed out. Click Continue.
- Allow or deny. Check the summary and allow the connection.
The app is now connected to that one workspace. To connect it to a different workspace, or change what it may do, connect it again. The new connection replaces the old one.
See and revoke connected apps
Settings > MCP > Connected apps lists each app with who connected it, what it may do and when it was last used. Admins and the Owner see every app connected to the workspace. Everyone else sees their own.
Click Revoke to cut an app off. It loses access right away. To use it again, connect it again.
Safety
- An app only ever reaches the one workspace you picked. It can't see your other servers.
- It can only do what you allowed, and never more than your current role allows.
- Dexbi checks every request. If you're removed from the workspace, or the workspace moves to Free, the app stops working at once. After an upgrade, it works again as before.
- Everything the app changes is recorded as made through MCP, with the app and the person who connected it.
- An app can make up to 60 requests a minute, and at most 20 of them can be changes.
- Test questions from an app count toward your daily Test box messages, like your own.
Let your AI set up Dexbi for you
Once connected, you can hand over the slow parts of setup. Copy one of these into your AI app and fill in the blanks.
Write documents from your website. Your AI app needs to be able to browse the web for this one.
Read our website at https://example.com/help and write Dexbi documents for our refund policy, shipping and sizing. One topic per document. Use plain words our customers would use.
Find gaps.
Look at the documents in Dexbi and tell me what customers will ask that they don't answer yet. Then write those documents.
Add a style rule and a hand-off rule.
Write a Dexbi guidance rule so it sounds friendly and casual, and an escalation rule that hands angry customers to staff.
Test and fix.
Ask Dexbi's Test box 10 questions a customer might ask. For any weak or wrong answer, fix the document it used, then ask again.
Your AI app can't deploy Dexbi or change who it answers. Do those in the dashboard: Deploy and Access.
Switch to Dexbi from another bot
If you're moving from another support bot, you don't have to retype its knowledge. Your AI app can move it for you.
Get your old knowledge out
Most support bots let you export or copy their FAQ, articles or snippets. Save them as a file or copy the text. If the old knowledge is on a public help center, you can just give your AI app its URL.
Connect your AI app to Dexbi
Follow Connect your app above. Grant Read your knowledge, Edit documents and Ask test questions.
Ask it to move everything
Attach or paste the export, then:
Here's our old bot's FAQ export. Turn each topic into a Dexbi document, one topic per document. Keep our wording, and skip anything outdated.
Check nothing is missing
Compare what's in Dexbi now with the old export and list anything missing.
Test the common questions
Ask Dexbi's Test box the 10 most common questions from the old bot and fix any weak answers.
Then deploy Dexbi in the dashboard and remove the old bot from those channels.
Prefer not to use an AI app? Dexbi can import the knowledge itself. Use Website sync for a help center, or Import files for exported PDF, Word, Markdown or text files.
