Limit replies and ignore trolls

Stop one member from using up your replies, and stop answering people who are just baiting the bot.

Every reply Dexbi sends counts toward your monthly replies. In a big server, one person spamming questions or trying to break the bot can use a lot of them. Two settings protect you. Both work on every plan.

When you're done, each member gets a fair number of replies a day, and trolls get ignored.

Open Access

Open Settings (the gear on the far left) and go to Access. You need to be an Admin or the Owner.

Set a daily reply limit

Under Restrictions, open Daily reply limit and pick 10 a day, 20 a day, 50 a day or 100 a day. The default is Off.

This counts replies in channels and tickets together. When a member reaches it, Dexbi stops answering them until midnight UTC. It doesn't post a message about it.

For most servers, 20 or 50 a day is plenty for real questions.

Check Ignore trolls is on

Ignore trolls is on by default. When Dexbi sees someone clearly trolling, spamming or baiting it, it stops answering them for an hour. Pinging Dexbi doesn't lift it.

Make sure your team is exempt

Add your moderator roles to Staff Roles, under Team roles on the same page. Staff and teammates are never limited or judged as trolls.

Check it works

The dashboard confirms each change with a message like "Daily reply limit: 20 a day". In Discord, a member who hits the limit stops getting replies until the next day (UTC).

Let someone back in

A moderator can run /dexbi resume in the channel, and pick the member, to make Dexbi answer them again. This lifts a troll mute. See Slash commands.

Other ways to control who Dexbi answers

Also in Access:

  • Required Roles: members need one of these roles for Dexbi to respond at all. Useful for "verified" or "customer" roles.
  • Ignored Roles: Dexbi never responds to members with these roles.
  • Blocked Users: specific people Dexbi never answers.

See Access for all of them.
